Packs, Dens & Leaders

Cub Scouting is fun! no matter what grade you are in, 1st through 5th, it can be a blast.

Each Cub Scout will be involved in a Den consisting of a group of boys his own age where he can earn status and recognition. There he will also gain a sense of personal achievement from the new skills he learns. Dens usually meet at least once a month, with the meeting location alternating at each boy’s house. Dens are led by an adult volunteer, the Den Leader, who is typically a parent of a boy in the Den. Den meetings are a time for learning new things and having fun. Each Den typically plans additional monthly outings or activities.

A Cub Scout is also a member of a Pack which consists of several Dens. Pack 617 meets once a month in Garden Road Elementary’s Multi-Purpose Room (MPR). The meetings usually follow a suggested theme and are a time for boys to be recognized for their accomplishments during the month, to perform skits and to have fun with the entire family. Packs typically plan additional monthly outings or activities, annual camping trips, etc. Packs are led by a Cubmaster and Pack Committee. Like the Den Leaders, the Cubmaster and committee members are volunteers and are usually adult family members of boys in the Pack. The Pack committee makes plans for Pack meetings and activities and takes care of the “business” items necessary for a quality Pack program.
